Alegria do Norte is a dance festival that celebrates Brazilian culture, in particular Forró – a dance and music style from North-east of Brazil.

During 3 nights and 2 days we have the opportunity to enjoy live music and fantastic DJs, dancing and dance workshops with local and international artists and teachers!

Who we are

We, Forró Stockholm, are a non-profit, non-religious, non-political organisation with the main purpose of spreading the knowledge of the Brazilian dance and music style such as forró and samba de gafieira, as well as the Brazilian culture in Sweden

What we stand for

Our Dances

Samba de gafieira

Samba de gafieira is a popular saloon dance from Brazil. Samba has its roots in Africa, and gafieira is the name for the place where the sambistas dance to live music. The elegant dance Gafieira is also called samba a dois (samba between two) or samba de salão (saloon samba).

Forró

There are many stories about the origin of the name. Some say forró comes from the word forrobodó, which means “commotion” or “great party”. Some say it comes from the English words “for all” when immigrants saw the locals dancing it. Anyhow, forró became a popular dance in Brazil.
